As I enter the twilight of my life, I often find myself reflecting on the journey that has brought me here. I recall those youthful days studying German literature, and the unexpected turning point that led me down the path of theology. Only now do I fully grasp how that decision completely altered the course of my life.
Theology proved to be an expansive field of study. While it encompassed various areas such as biblical studies, doctrinal exploration, church administration, and homiletics, I chose to specialize in Old Testament studies. Though I delved deep into just a portion of the vast content of the Old Testament, this process allowed me to develop a comprehensive view of the entire Bible.
At my current age, embarking on new journeys or making grand plans is challenging. Yet, a small aspiration still resides in a corner of my heart. As a scholar who has dedicated a lifetime to studying the Old Testament, I yearn to leave behind a concise and clear written account of my understanding of the Bible. Though the Bible is a single book, the wisdom and teachings contained within it are infinite. I feel an urgent desire to pass on the essence of the Bible as I've seen and experienced it to future generations.
However, the reality is far from simple. The compilation of the Bible dictionary is still ongoing, and numerous projects in both Korean and English await my attention. At times, I'm gripped by the fear that my life might end before I can complete all these tasks.
Life is full of unpredictable turning points. Yet, each of these moments has contributed to our growth and enriched our wisdom. Though I'm uncertain how much time I have left, I intend to continue learning, researching, and writing in this very moment. I hope this will serve as my small repayment to the field of study I've devoted my life to, and as a modest legacy for future generations.
This aspiration of mine isn't merely for personal achievement. I hope that the knowledge and insights I've accumulated over a lifetime will benefit the next generation of theologians and pastors. I believe that a profound understanding of the Bible can provide answers to various issues in modern society.
My academic journey has often been a lonely and challenging path. However, the insights gained and spiritual growth experienced along the way are treasures I wouldn't trade for anything. Now, I consider it my final mission to pass these treasures on to the next generation.
In the time I have left, I intend to do my utmost to fulfill this mission. Even if I can't realize all my plans, I believe the process itself will be a meaningful journey. I fervently hope that my efforts will serve as a small light in the theological world and church community, helping more people discover the profound truths of the Bible.
