My life has been an unending journey of learning and teaching. The desire to research, write, and share my thoughts with the world through books still burns brightly within me. Although I've only published ten books, the insights and growth I've gained in the process have become invaluable assets that I wouldn't trade for anything.
Teaching has been my greatest joy. Whenever I discovered the passion for learning in the eyes of young people, I felt that I, too, was growing alongside them. While I may not have achieved all my dreams, the experiences and wisdom gained along the way have enriched my life immeasurably.
The time and effort I devoted to language study were immeasurable. As I learned ten languages, I strived not just to master words and grammar, but to understand the culture and mindset each language embodied. The language learning environment of our generation was quite different from today's. Despite constraints like grammar-focused methods and a lack of practical conversation opportunities, I gave it my all.
Looking back, our generation's approach to English learning might have been somewhat inefficient. However, those efforts have enabled me to live in the United States now, reading and writing in English. Of course, I can't use it as freely as my mother tongue, but through my struggles, I've gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of language learning.
The significance of persistent effort cannot be overstated. Even if not perfect, consistent effort always yields results. While working as an interpreter and translator, I never stopped challenging my limits, eventually developing the ability to translate lengthy books.
Yet, it's crucial to maintain humility. No matter how proficient one becomes, a learned language is different from one's mother tongue. There may be subtle differences in pronunciation or intonation that are difficult to overcome. Acknowledging and accepting these limitations is also an important life lesson.
